happy thanksgiving

Tomorrow is a day to spend with family, friends and loved ones (the last being a totally different category than friends or family sometimes). To this, I say….gobble, gobble. I think I will go see the floats and balloons being prepared tonight, because the thought of actually going to the parade tomorrow makes me weak in the knees. Here is map of the floats for those of you who may be interested:http://gothamist.com/2008/11/25/map_of_the_day_macys_thanksgiving_b.php

Take lots of mobile pictures during the holiday. I want to see all types of feasts and fun Thanksgiving traditions.

Here is a mobile picture of a possible Thanksgiving dinner for some of you out there…

eyes open….ACTION!

I woke up to a woman screaming ACTION today. Film crews can be great alarm clocks.

carl, the velvetine dog

David Selman took this mobile picture of a velvet painting he won in a trivia contest. The previous owner of the painting had named the dog Carl.

cabin fever

When I moved into my apartment two years ago, I was excited at the notion of turning it in a cozy urban cabin, where comfort and style went hand in hand. A lot of work went into it, but somewhere along the way and between the various leaks, fruit fly infestations and critter sightings, I lost interest in doing anything with the apartment. I am currently moving out so I have to paint my room back to white, and I have been cursing the cabin fantasy ever since.

Now that the walls are partially painted, the soul of the room is stripped bare and I realize that despite the problems with the apartment, I have grown attached to that place. Lovers, friends, and family all convened under one shitty roof in Greenpoint, and now all of that is moving to another, less shitty roof.

Here is a mobile picture I took one morning when I woke up in the cabin. It was a Sunday, and for once, I was glad to be where I was.

william eggleston

William Eggleston is one of my favorite photographers, and his first retrospective in the United States is now on display at the Whitney. Sounds like a perfect way to spend some time for those of you staying in New York for the holiday weekend. For more info, go to http://www.whitney.org/www/eggleston/index.jsp.

dragons for sale

When I first saw this photo, I thought, what in the HELL is that? To me, it looks like a scene out of a Harry Potter book, where there is an underground market for dragon meat due to its delectable taste and its healing properties for bogwarts. But no…it’s just gator feet being sold in Chinatown right here in New York, the city that never fails to surprise me. Thanks to Jamie Chung for submitting this.

GOP for sale

Davinia Roberts sent in this mobile picture of a post election super sale of John McCain memorabilia.

I found this in a local DC souvenir shop. Shirts were averaging $3.00 each. Poor maverick!

Regular contributor Karen Radman sent in this photo of a guy at the cafe where she works. A good way to start the day!

crystal castles GLITCH

David Selman submitted this mobile picture of a recent Crystal Castles performance. Taken with a trusty iPhone camera, the photo is glitched! Selman remarked on the coolness of “how it blacked out everything but that one horizontal strip and the spotlight.” Cool indeed!

gotham

One of the things that has always attracted me to New York is its buildings, and the involuntary voyeuristic roles we all assume once we live here. Unfortunately, the new trend of glass buildings makes the whole notion of voyeurism less exciting, since everyone’s life is now on display for all to see. This mobile picture was taken in a building in Columbus Circle, while I was peeing. It represents the old ideal image I had of New York before I moved here.
