happy birthday lil mama

Yesterday was Laura/Lil Mama’s 30th birthday. We are going to Atlantic City this weekend to celebrate the birth of this great woman, and to also get piss drunk and act as though we were ten years younger than our actual age. I am sure I will have plenty of gems to post on here from this little excursion into birthday sin.

textural argentina

Jon Parker reserved most of the money shots from his recent trip to Argentina for his traditional camera, but he did snap a few mobile pictures while he was there. All of these images have one thing in common: strong texture and patterns. Here’s what Jon’s thoughts were when snapping these…

Accidental extreme foreshortening of Rory at the checkout counter as I opened my iPhone to calculate the exchange rate.

The crappy tile floor of the market  I opened my iphone and there it was so I snapped it.

An old car shipping crate being used as a vendor table. Lovely texture.

I don’t have any stitch/panorama apps on my iphone (I think you can get some now) but I tried to take photos of the painted side of the flea market. In my camera index it almost lines up. Now I want to take pictures that add up to something when I look at them in the index view… Like a mosaic

Looking forward to seeing more stuff come from your travels Jon. Gracias por tu amor.

painterly tuesday

A smokey treat serves as a reward for a long Tuesday night of helping my friend John paint his kitchen.

boston, the frozen tundra

I am sick of this cold weather. This winter has been annoyingly consistent with its freezing temperatures and gusty winds. Here are some mobile photos I took while in Boston recently. Brrr….

I am sure that Harvard students are being particularly studious this winter, as there are mountains of ice and dirty snow throughout the campus that serve as reminders to stay indoors.

The Charles River as a beautiful mosaic of broken ice.

A couple of ladies in the pond at the Public Garden. Looks like they had more than one mimosa at brunch…tsk, tsk.

new york style parking

As a New Yorker, I am now conditioned to living in smaller spaces. I remember my outrage at the first couple of apartments I had to live in, one of which was the exact size for me to squeeze in a double loft bed, had no natural light, and also housed a siamese pussy that would always puke up hair balls. Without the light, there was no way to avoid stepping in the puke as a little extra incentive to get out and go to work in the mornings. This mobile picture that Tobias sent in is a tribute to all my fellow New Yorkers who have had to make the kinds of sacrifices that seem crazy to southerners and mid-westerners. For some reason it’s just worth it.

powdering noses

Kate Eagle took this self portrait of herself at the annual gala for her work with her mother in the background powdering her nose. She says this about the experience:

I was waiting for her to finish reapplying her makeup in the background. I was becoming increasingly impatient, so I started photographing myself in the mirror. Sooooo pissed!

Well you shouldn’t be all that pissed Miss Eagle, because this actually turned out to be quite an interesting picture. Shalom.

love and gasoline

Here is what Davinia says about her latest submission:

Pulled up to the pump, poped open the tank opened my door and there it was….a soggy loli.
Happy belated valentines day to me.

Looks like a good ad campaign for the oil companies to me.

running for their lives

Ronan sent in this mobile pic of an art performance at Tate Britain. This exhibition by Martin Creed features a person running through the Neoclassical gallery every 30 seconds. For those of you in New York, you just have to go to the Court Square stop on the G during rush hour to see not just one person, but a whole mob of people running as fast as they can to catch the E/F train. Document it, send it in to your favorite gallery, and voila: art.

knitting nation

Here is a mobile photo of Liz Collins’s ongoing installation project, Knitting Nation. This was taken by Becky Bermont at RISD. Love the mylar.
