Last night I saw Yo La Tengo promoting their new album Popular Songs at the Roseland Ballroom. While the overall sound quality of both The Black Lips and Yo La Tengo sucked (someone should be shot over this), the light show that acted as a back drop to Yo La Tengo was amazing, provided by Joshua White and Gary Panter. If you have the chance to see it, do it.

A split shot of the backstage workings of the light show and the band performing.

Ronan has this to say about his latest mobile pic:
I was invited to see this rock performer from America live in a sweaty student venue overlooking the Thames river.
It was amazing. It had everything: heavy moshing, evangilism, keyboard solos, vomiting, crowdsurfing, moments of pure comedy. After, I felt I had been hit over the face with a self help book and enjoyed it.
Andrew encouraged the crowd onto the stage, involving them in his music in a kind of comical rap way, bizzare, tear funny and very entertaining.
At one point about half of the excitable audience took to the stage to dance with their messihah Andrew. So intense it got that Andrew smashed his nose on someone’s head and blood flowed out rather ironically matching his printed blood t-shirt.
Visibly shaken he momentarily left the stage then came back with blood all over him and a bent nose. He continued to Rock.
Toward the end he was making himself sick rather bizarrely and vomited more than once mid song.
Incredible live music.

All Tomorrow’s Parties

Joanne Jones has the post ATP blues, kinda like the day after I went to Lilith Fair in the late 1990s, though I would never admit it until now. I’m not the biggest fan of music festivals, but this actually looks like a whole lot of fun…

Below are some pics from the Flaming Lips’s set. Groovy.

And here we have a younger, more spastic version of Karen O. in the form of Alice Glass from Crystal Castles. Meow.

I was delighted when I spotted the Young Einstein soundtrack on vinyl on the way to the laundromat this morning. I have to admit that I was surprised and disappointed when Yahoo Serious’s career failed to take off here in the states. At least we have Carrot Top as a close substitute.

I get so weak in the knees….when I look back at my tape collection. TLC, SWV and just about any other acronym for an all black female vocal group are here. I was pushin’ it, creepin’ around and sweating it baby all throughout the 90’s. Let the music take control…
