let them eat jell-o…

Yesterday was the second annual Jell-O Mold competition at the Gowanus Studio Space. As some of you may know, my friend Victoria Belanger IS the Jell-O Mold Mistress of Brooklyn, a popular blog about modern gelatin confections that has been featured in the New York Times, Food & Wine.com,  and the Splendid Table. The good ole’ mistress had a prior engagement however, so I was recruited to represent her along with another friend, all of which may have added to the mystery surrounding the true identity of the Jell-O mistress (masks were provided by Victoria to quell any confusion). Victoria’s mold of the Newton Creek Sewage Treatment Plant in Greenpoint was met with enthusiasm and smirks from the hipsters who bike by the structure on a daily basis. Competition was very fierce this year, with notable molds in the shape of a Tiffany Lamp and an alter of Bloody Marys. I can safely say though, that after 5 artisanal Jell-O shots and a couple mouthfuls of warm, sweaty molds, my love for Jell-O may be on a short hiatus…
